Hello jeremy, having visited Shakespeare and Company while in Paris during Christmas 2005, and spending three all too short hours there, there was something about that store that stayed with me. Two years later, back home in Southern California, I came across your wonderful book, "Time Was Soft There," I promply bought it, put in my pile of books to read, of course did not, until I read about George Whitman's passing, found your book and could not put it down. Great work by you and a joy to read! Thank you!

Hey! I'm Brazilian, SANTISTA and I just finish your book Time Was Soft There, published in Brazil by Casa da Palavra. Il m'a réveillé le désir de la liberté!
I work in a bookstore coincidently, but i don't sleep there, is something completly different of this kind of experience that you described, time here is hard. Congratulations for your courage to change your life too suddenly and for writing such inspiring book. Best wishes for your new publications.

Ok they're bright, but you still can't beat the jumping chickens for sheer joy of life, or for the artistic completeness of the original film. But what I'm also wondering is how come in the second film the two white hens, having had the innovation of climbing, are perched on the branch, while the brown hen persists in jumping, as of the two brown hens in the original film? What's with brown hens and jumping, and white hens and climbing?

Let me be the first to demand a heapin' helping of ketchup to annoint my serving of humble pie and say that we rushed to judgment on the DSK affair. As a Frenchman, I am ashamed.

As much as you are a fine journalist, you fell for the most naïve "pensée unique".

And there is more to come for those of us who think we know better. Just wait.

Dear Jeremy

I just stumbled over your recent article conc. DSK and R.Badinter. Bold though interesting that you are dissociating yourself publicly from Badinters statement.
Recently we had a similar case in Germany where a famous and liked TV-moderator of swiss origin was charged with similar accusations. After half a year he was acqitted despite major doubts. The same happened to Michael J. and O.J. Simpson in the recent years.
Irregardeless of their verdict their name will always be stigmatized. Therefore the true penalty for DSK (guilty or not) will be the loss of his reputation, his job and the end of all his ambitions??

All the best

Reminiscent of the stampede by cronies of Conrad Black to denounce the U.S. justice system in the same fashion when Lord Blowhard of Crossdresser found himself on the wrong end of a fraud and obstructing justice conviction. The fawning acolytes of power brokers often seem to bask in the same grandiose sense of entitlement that got their false idols into trouble in the first place. As far as the presumption of innocence is concerned, that is not a formal plea that anyone caught trying to do a Ronnie Biggs (or is "a Polanski" more geopolitically apt in this case)can readily avail themselves of. Consciousness of guilt goes a long way in the minds of any juror. Anyway, in a week pockmarked by the pecadillos of power penises like DSK and Schwarzenegger, maybe it's time to call Daniel Cohn-Bendit back out of retirement...

Thank you for this, Jeremy. You must also have had to think twice before denouncing Robert's stance given your personal connection. But this is just so perfectly expressed from start to finish. And a welcome antidote to Ken Clarke's comments on the radio this week.
