Foot in the door

October 2, 2020

Coming from the North American system where journalists can aspire to become respected professors based on their professional accomplishments, I have struggled to accept my role as a mere sessional lecturer in France because their academic system requires substantial accreditation and recognised graduate degrees. That’s why I am delighted to have thrust my foot through the door of academic credibility by having contributed a chapter to a book about the history of the BBC, La BBC et le service public de l’audiovisuel, 1922-1955 published by Ellispes. The book features essays by admired French professors at the Université Bordeaux, the Université de Rennes, and the Université de Limoges, as well as contributions by UK-based professors. It was an excellent experience working with my editor, the talented Georges Fournier, and I am happy to announce that I have already been asked to contribute to another academic book about anglophone media systems that is scheduled to appear in the fall of 2021.
